Our Journey — Down Memory Lane
Our Journey — Down Memory Lane
Daughters of the King Nonprofit Organization did not begin with a building, a large budget, or a paid staff. It began with faith, compassion, and a decision to serve.
During the COVID-19 era, the needs surrounding families, older adults, people experiencing homelessness, and people facing crisis became impossible to ignore. What began as small acts of service grew into an organization committed to showing up with dignity, practical help, encouragement, and hope.
We Kept Going
The journey has not always been easy. We have faced limited resources, changing circumstances, delays, opposition, learning curves, and moments when the vision was bigger than what we could afford. But the mission continued.
We learned to work with what was in our hands. We gave food, clothing, hygiene supplies, books, encouragement and practical resources. We supported older adults and community members through Johnnie's Friends, served through Random Acts of Kindness, and continued building relationships with people willing to volunteer, donate, pray, connect us to resources, or simply believe in the work.
That perseverance is part of our story.
Where the Mission Is Today
Our current work includes Storey by Moses, a youth-led literacy and inclusion initiative promoting kindness, anti-bullying, disability awareness, diversity, dignity and belonging.
In November 2026, we plan to continue serving unhoused neighbors with food and practical necessities. In December 2026, our Winter Walkathon will support the future Just Breathe building and program-readiness fund.
The Just Breathe Program is our developing long-term residential vision. We do not currently operate a group home. Our plan is to build responsibly toward three residential homes serving girls first, then begin expanding residential services for boys with a fourth home, all under the Just Breathe Program umbrella.
Building Without Pretending We Are Already There
Daughters of the King does not currently have a permanent public building or walk-in facility. We believe transparency matters to donors, families, volunteers and partners. We are building the foundation before the building: governance, program planning, policies, partnerships, fundraising, community visibility and responsible readiness.
Our mailing address should not be mistaken for an operating service location.
